Bookmark User select list contains asterisks

In the administrator account, I attempt to add a user to access list for a bookmark.  I click the "Add" link.  The user select windows appears.  I enter my my search criteria and click "Find".  The resulting list of users is entiely made up of asterisk user names and user ids.  For example, the last and first names are *****,***** and the user id is *****.

I have the PortalBookmarkAdminRole assigned to the administrator account.


Does any one know what is causing this?
